Edmund Russell is the Joyce and Elizabeth Hall Distinguished Professor of U.S. History at the University of Kansas. His research synthesizes environmental history, American history, global history, history of technology, and science. He is the author of several works, including War and Nature: Fighting Humans and Insects with Chemicals from World War I to Silent Spring (winner of the Edelstein Prize) and "Evolutionary History: Prospectus for a New Field," Environmental History (April 2003), which won the publication's annual Leopold-Hidy Prize.
