John Mark Hansen is the Charles L. Hutchinson Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago. His work has centered on interest groups, citizen activism, and public opinion. He has published two books entitled Mobilization, Participation, and Democracy in America (co-authored with Steven Rosenstone) and Gaining Access: Congress and the Farm Lobby, 1919–1981. He has also written articles such as "Individuals, Institutions, and Public Preferences over Public Finance" in American Political Science Review (September 1998), for which he received the journal's Heinz Eulau Award for the Best Article Published in 1998.
