Nuclear Test Ban Treaty

On October 7, 1963, President John Kennedy, seated, signed an agreement with Britain and the Soviet Union to limit the testing of nuclear weapons. The treaty signified the President’s successful attempt to reduce Cold War tensions by engaging the Soviets in negotiations. Kennedy considered the treaty the greatest accomplishment of his Presidency, which ended a few weeks later when he was assassinated.
